At Stepping Stone, for the past 43 years, our doors have opened not just to provide shelter, but to welcome survivors into something powerful: a community.
When we talk about community in the context of domestic violence survival, sexual violence survival, and trafficking survival, we’re talking about something sacred, a network of understanding that says, “You belong here. You are believed. You are not alone. You are part of our community, and you matter. Your story matters.” This is the difference between a roof overhead and a foundation beneath your feet.
The Legacy of Connection
For more than four decades, survivors have walked through our doors carrying the weight and trauma of their stories. What they’ve found here is the radical safety that comes from being surrounded by people who understand without explanation, who hold space without judgment, and who stand beside you as you reclaim your life. Who sees you as you are now and who you will become through healing.
This legacy wasn’t built by walls or programs alone. It was built by every survivor who chose to stay connected, every volunteer who showed up with open hearts, and every partner and supporter who brought their resources to us to create a lifeline for others.
Community as Foundation
Safety isn’t created in isolation. It emerges when wraparound connections meet you exactly where you are, where your truth is honored, volunteer communities that expand what’s possible, and advocates who help you navigate systems that weren’t built with survivors in mind.
When survivors find community here, they find:
- Replace isolation with understanding
- Make connections that restore safety, stability, and harness the power of community
- Services that address not just the crisis, but the whole journey toward stability
This is how stability takes root, not through a single intervention, but through a web of care that catches you when you fall and celebrates with you when you rise.
What You’ll Find Here
This blog is an extension of that community. Here, you’ll find stories of resilience, resources for healing, and insights into the work we do every day. We’ll share updates about our programs, spotlight the volunteers and advocates who make this work possible, and offer perspectives on what it truly means to support survivors.
Whether you’re a survivor seeking connection, a community member wanting to understand how to help, or someone who believes in the power of safe spaces, this blog is for you. Expect honest conversations, practical resources, and a continued commitment to the values that have guided us for 43 years.
You are Part of Our Legacy
Every survivor who has found refuge here has added to this legacy. Every volunteer who has given their time has strengthened this community. Every donor who has believed in this work has made these connections possible.
As we continue this essential work, we carry forward a simple but profound truth: healing happens and is sustained in community. Safety is built through connection. And hope grows when we hold space for one another.
Welcome to our community space. We’re honored you’re here.
