First Community Conversation Will Focus on Sexual Assault Awareness, Prevention, and Education
In April, Sexual Assault Awareness Month, Stepping Stone Shelter is raising awareness, education, and advocacy on this topic by launching our first Community Conversation. This structured educational conversation will focus on sexual assault awareness, prevention, and education on how the community can support survivors. This event is geared towards those who want to learn more about the shelter and this topic, with the goal of providing support.
Community Conversations will be held in Michigan City and La Porte, with both events taking place at City Halls in each location. There will be a presentation with a short Q&A session to end the evening. It is important to note that this is not a support group event. If you or someone you know is in search of a sexual assault support group, there is more information about groups and resources on our website. This first conversation in the quarterly series will take place as follows:
- La Porte: La Porte City Hall, Thursday, April 23, 2026, 6 pm- 7 pm
- Michigan City: Michigan City City Hall, Thursday, April 30, 2026, 5:30 pm-6:30 pm
While this event is free, registration is required for each conversation as space is limited. Additionally, parental discretion is advised. This conversation is intended for audiences 16+ due to the topic. Those interested in attending can do so through the Community Conversation Events on the Stepping Stone Facebook page.
More information about the remaining Community Conversations will be released later this year; they will be held quarterly across La Porte County.
